Moonlight shining on Ubuntu

This morning the first thing on the channel was the following excellent news, that I shall now reproduce directly as-read:

<directhex> it's official, moon binaries are now trivially installable on any ubuntu 9.04 system
<directhex> the 1-click url is apt:moonlight-plugin-mozilla

Awesome stuff directhex, many thanks ot you and everyone else that helped shine a bit of moonlight on jaunty!

PS: directhex also noted that the build servers are busy building, so not all architectures might be available right now, just give it a bit of time :)

Yeah, let's celebrate this disease.

Long live .NET !!!

Mister Oh-so-brave "Anonymous", I know this might confuse you, but here it is:

There is no .NET of any kind in Silverlight 1.0, or by extension Moonlight 1.0. The logic engine is based on Javascript - it uses your browser's Javascript engine.

No thank you. If I wanted that kind of shit on my box I'd run windoze.

oh directhex that's so brave of you, you are using your nickname. So much more brave than a guy using 'Anonymous' I wanted to congratulate you for a well-executed ad hominem attack.

Anyway. Are you dumb? Just because it runs on Javascript doesn't make it any less than poisonous .net viral tech. Or do you think the fact .net is actually interpreted by some native program makes it a native program and less .net ?

If the message is bollocks, then the messenger is to blame. Waving "ZOMG! AD HOMINEMZ" about doesn't change that.

Sadly, whilst ignorance can be cured, stupidity is terminal.

Do I think something not being .NET makes it not .NET? You know, I think I do. I think YOU don't understand a word of what you're saying, though.

How can something without a line of .NET or .NET-related source be ".net viral tech", oh all-knowing master of the Intertubes?

ah, the virtues of intelligence.

Let me just say first of all that I'm very disapointed at only getting this tiny amount of flames. Really, is this it?!? Don't I get angry mobs? Flaming torches? A little pitch fork? *sniff*

Anyway, could you minions go tell paranoid roy that he needs to be a little more determined in his research, because he missed the little blog post where I shout out to the world that I'm a mono dev? I know, it's really really well hidden away, but I don't want him to get his facts wrong, that I would just not be right for such a fact-concerned person. Thx!

Flames aside thx for the FYI. Bazaar how many people are upset to see .NET code work in Linux. They must not be programmers... :)

Moonlight 2.0... that's what I'm waiting for...

Is there any way whatsoever to actually get the moonlight 2.0 alpha (or is the beta out now? Scheduled for May) installed on Ubuntu 9.04? I would really like to be able to use my netflix account with my laptop, otherwise I'll have to put windows back on the stupid thing.

I tried compiling from svn but no go.

@Michael: what a coincidence that you should ask that! Our freshly baked Moonlight 2.0 preview has just been posted and announced!
